Pukkelpop 2019 zondag 18/08/2019 recensie

Het grootste underground muziek festival van België, Pukkelpop 2019, onze recensie van dag 4.

De jonge sensatie, Billie Eilish O’Connell, hebben we helaas gemist, maar dankzij Studio Brussel konden we een stuk volgen via de radiogolven op weg naar de laatste dag van Pukkelpop 2019. Arriverend op de festival site werden we meteen op de hoogte gebracht van een legendarisch optreden van de jonge Amerikaanse, waarbij we tieners zagen die in tranen elkaar omhelsden. Maxim Lany in de Boiler Room stond als eerste act op ons programma. Zijn gebruikelijke sound van deep house en tech house werd afgewisseld met classics zoals Sono’s Keep Control. Fans van Kelis stonden op de eerste rij voor een prachtig optreden vol funk, soul en hits zoals Milkshake. Maar snel terug naar de Boiler Room voor Camelphat. Er zijn op Pukkelpop zoveel acts dat er helaas keuzes gemaakt worden en dit werd dus Camelphat. Camelphat die releases heeft op het Defected label, denken we aan de hit Cola (met Elderbrook) koos om meer vocals en lange spacy breaks toe te voegen die langzaam naar climaxen evolueerden. Met de start van het duo Pan-Pot werd het hoofdstuk techno in de Boiler Room gestart. Gelukkig koos het duo om langzaam van house naar techno over te schakelen wat een zeer aagename switch was. Eén van onze techno sterren, Amelie Lens, werd luidkeels ontvangen en met strakke acid techno startte ze haar set. Tijdens Amelie Lens gingen we terug naar de mainstage voor de afsluitende act van Twenty One Pilots die verrassend een Tomorrowland moment in hun optreden toevoegden met Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike’s Crowd Control en resulteerde in een massale beweging van links naar rechts. Pukkelpop 2019 werd afgesloten met resident dj, Michael Midnight, die zorgde voor een fantastisch feest in de overvolle Boiler Room. Volgend jaar zal Electronic Music Magazine Belgium terug aanwezig zijn op het grootste underground muziek festival van België en we noteren alvast 20, 21, 22 en 23 augustus in onze agenda. Pukkelpop 2020 zal ongetwijfeld een groots feest worden met het 35-jarig bestaan. (JL)

The largest underground music festival of Belgium, Pukkelpop 2019, our report of day 4.

Unfortunately we missed the young sensation, Billie Eilish O’Connell, but thanks to Studio Brussels we were able to follow a piece through the radio waves on our way to the last day of Pukkelpop 2019. Arriving at the festival site we were immediately informed of a legendary performance by the young American, and noticing embracing teenagers in tears. Maxim Lany in the Boiler Room was the first act on our program. His usual sound from deep house and tech house was alternated with classics such as Sono’s Keep Control. Many fans of Kelis were gathered on the first row for a beautiful performance full of funk, soul and hits like Milkshake. But we soon went back to the Boiler Room for Camelphat. There are so many acts on Pukkelpop that well, unfortunately, choices have to be made and that choice was Camelphat. Camelphat who releases on the defected label, as we think of the hit Cola (with Elderbrook) chose to add more vocals and long spacy breaks that slowly evolved to climaxes. With the start of the duo Pan-Pot, the chapter techno started in the Boiler Room. Luckily the duo chose for a nice and slow build up from house towards techno which was a pleasant switch. One of our techno stars, Amelie Lens, was loudly welcomed and started her set immediately bringing tight acid techno. But somewhere in between Amelie’s set we went bach to the mainstage for the closing act of Twenty One Pilots who surprisingly added a Tomorrowland moment in their performance with Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike’s Crowd Control resulting in a moving crowd from left to right. Pukkelpop 2019 was closed with resident DJ, Michael Midnight, who delivered yet again a wonderful party atmosphere in the overcrowded Boiler Room. Electronic Music Magazine Belgium will be present next year at the largest underground music festival in Belgium as we already note 20, 21, 22 and 23 August in our agenda. Undoubtedly, Pukkelpop 2020, will be a huge celebration with the 35^th anniversary. (JL)
